Begin with a preparatory prayer to ready your heart for the contemplation. Take some time to play these two scenes like a movie in your mind. Let your imagination bring you to these places. Afterward, close with the suggested prayer.

Scene 1: Picture the scenes prior to the resurrection. Jesus has died. After his physical death, he visits Sheol to preach to the imprisoned spirits (I Peter 3:19). Then he returns to the tomb to rise again. Jesus is about to see his mother, Mary.

Scene 2: Notice Mary’s house, the rooms, the details. Mary is mourning. Imagine Jesus suddenly coming onto the scene. What might the encounter have been like? What would Mary have felt when seeing her dear son again after all that had transpired? What might Jesus have felt or done when seeing his mom?

Closing Prayer: Spirit of Life, fill me with gladness and joy to celebrate Jesus the Lord who is alive today and invites me into relationship and collaborative mission.
